Anoka County Death Index

Anoka County History Center has extensive obituary files from 1869 to the present. This is a start to a master index of all the Obituary files. If you would like copies of the obituaries please contact us at acgsmn@yahoo.com or come to the History Center and we will help you to find them.

The obituaries are in 3 different formats depending on the years that they were collected.

1869-1974 are indexed in BINDERS. The master index lists the dates of the binder and the page number within that range. They are usually together by decade. Some binders have a copy of the obituary and some are only references to newspapers that are available on microfilm at the history center.

1975 - present are on index cards in alphabetical order in a CARD FILE or copied into a 3 ring binder by year.

Oversized obituaries are filed in MANUSCRIPT FILE by folder (A, B, C, D) and page number

Pioneer & Early Settler Certificate

The Anoka County Genealogical Society will issue Pioneer certificates to descendants of Anoka County pioneers. These certificates will be presented to anyone proving direct descent from any person settling in Anoka County by 1876.

An Early Settler certificate will be issued to anyone proving direct descent from any any person settling in Anoka County between 1877-1900.

The certificates are 8 1/2 x 11 and are suitable for framing. They are an asset to anyone's family records. The cost of each certificate is $5.00.

To obtain an Anoka County Pioneer/Early Settler certificate, an applicant must prove descent by an official record or acceptable source of proof. (Census record, birth cert, land deed etc) The applicant need not live in Anoka County at the present time.

If you have more than one Anoka County pioneer ancestor, you may wish to order a certificate for each one.

Civil War Soldiers Records

Pensioners on the Roll as of January 1, 1883 - Anoka County

The Anoka County Historical Society has information on the Civil War soldiers from Anoka County in their research library along with considerable detail on the "2nd Minnesota Battery." Please contact the Historical Society at the History Center & Library on how to obtain the information.

The Anoka Civil War Soldiers Database is now available on the computers at the Anoka History Center!

This database contains the names of 665 men who lived in Anoka County, Champlin, or Dayton, before or after the Civil War and served at least three months. It will detail the vital information known about the man, including birth, marriage, and death dates, as well as information about his profession, family, and life after the war. The database is a work in progress, but when completed will include links to obituaries, death records, enlistment records, and other primary sources on the men, many of the documents from the collections of the Anoka History Center and the Minnesota Historical Society.

This database was created to honor the men of Anoka County who served the United States through the bloodiest war in American history during the 150th anniversary of the conflict.
